Location: The University of California, Davis.

Description: The Machine Systems Lab (UC Davis) is seeking a graduate student (M.S. or Ph.D.) to conduct research if field of agricultural machine systems. The potential projects include (but are not limited to):
• Developing autonomous vehicles for experimental simulation of rollover tests
• Designing, manufacturing, and evaluation of roll bar performance in rollover accidents (theoretical modeling with Finite Element Analysis and experimental test);
• Developing agricultural machinery tracking system and an accident detection module
• Capabilities and limitations of youth operating agricultural vehicles

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a B.S. or higher degree in Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Biological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related fields; should have strong written and oral English skills; will be willing to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students to conduct lab research and the desire for fieldwork. Additional highly desirable qualifications that applicants can address in the statement of purpose include experience in machine design and analysis, mechanism design, 3D modeling software (such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc. ...), finite element analysis, experience working with electronics, coding experience, working with embedded systems, strong organizational skills, ability and self-motivation to work independently while accomplishing high quality tasks in a timely fashion.

Opportunities for outreach, and travel to professional meetings will be available.

Closing Date: Screening of applicants will begin immediately and continue until filled. Applicants may have the opportunity to undertake summer hourly employment prior to Fall 2020 quarter enrollment.
