Society of Biological Engineers

The Society of Biological Engineers (SOBE) is the official American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) chapter at UC Davis. We strive to promote meaningful interaction between EBS students and the faculty of the BAE Department. Our mission as an academic club has always been to provide our members with opportunities that will further and enrich their college experiences. We aim to create valuable relationships between our fellow students, in addition to our wonderful faculty, for greater connectivity within our department as a whole.

As a fully student run undergraduate club, we are focused on the community within the students in our department. We host 11 events a quarter that range from professional to academic to social based activities. SOBE is determined to host industry speakers and tours allowing students to gain a better sense of the potential they have as bioengineers with this major. Furthermore, as a chapter of ASABE, students have the opportunity to join/make a team to compete in any of the ASABE competitions and/or go to the Annual ASABE International Meeting.

To stay connected with our upcoming events, check out the UC Davis SOBE Instagram (@sobeatucd) page and join our SOBE Discord here to receive messages!

ASABE Student Rally

What is a Student Rally?
The Student Rally is an integral part of many other ASABE sections and regions. It is an enriching experience and provides students with opportunities to:

1. Learn more about Agricultural and Biological Engineering, what it means to be an Ag and Bio Engineer, and the diversity of disciplines and career opportunities;
2. Network with other students as well as with members in different stages of their careers;
3. Get more active in ASABE at the chapter, section, regional, and national levels, and take on positions of leadership;
4. See and experience other schools; and
5. Visit local agricultural and biological museums, research laboratories and facilities, companies, and other interesting sites.

The hope is that adopting an annual Student Rally will help our Section demonstrate the value of Society membership to student and non-student members alike, help with membership retention and growth, cultivate future leaders, and promote a stronger, more active Section in general.
