Transfer Students

Admission Requirements

Transfer students are an integral and welcome addition to the Biological and Systems Engineering program. In order to ensure that students are well prepared for the program, UC Davis has established the following classes as required prerequisites to entry into the program.

Required courses that are offered at your current campus will need to be completed by the end of the spring term prior to fall enrollment at UC Davis. If required courses are not offered at your college, you must completed them after enrolling at UC Davis.

California Community College transfer students are given the highest priority, but we encourage all who are interested in the program to fill out the form for more information if needed.

Applications are open from November 1st through 11:59pm on November 30th. Students may begin working on their application as early as August 1st.

To become a Biological Systems Engineer, students should complete  the following preparatory courses with a or better:

  • Chemistry 2A
  • Mathematics 21A/B/C/D
  • Mathematics 22A/B
  • Physics 9A/B
  • Physics 9C (except Environmental Engineering)
  • Biological Sciences 2A
  • Chemistry 2B
  • Engineering 3 or Communications 1 or Communications 3
  • Engineering 6, 17, 35
  • University Writing Program (UWRITING) 1

General Requirements

Competative candidates should have a GPA of 3.10 or higher.

Your combined GPA for the preparatory courses listed above should be 3.20 or above.

Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)

In additon to the above mentioned coursework and guidelines, to qualify for TAG students should also complete the following:

  • Achieve a minimum overall GPA of 3.30 from the time your TAG is submitted, up to the time of enrollment.
  • Achieve the minimum GPA of 3.20 in major-specific preparatory coursework that has been completed at the time the TAG application is submitted.
  • Complete UC transfer requirements in English composition (2 courses) and mathematics (1 course) by the end of fall term 2018.
