Prof. Emeritus Bill Chancellor recognized

Professor Emeritus William J. Chancellor of the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering was presented with a Certificate of Recognition at the inaugural precision agriculture seminar on January 26. The award was presented for Prof. Chancellor’s “vision, leadership, and life-long contributions to technological advancements in agriculture.” Presenting the award is Prof. David Slaughter, Director of SmartFarm at UC Davis and faculty in the department who remarked that Prof. Chancellor’s early recognition of the role of information and the potential to substitute energy with information provided a vision for the development of a more advanced and sustainable agriculture. SmartFarm is a major new program championed by Prof. Slaughter under the campus Big Idea initiative. The seminar was the first of a Precision Ag series sponsored by the World Food Center and the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering in collaboration with other campus departments.
