Adjunct professor Zhongli Pan has received a Tanner Award for highest citations in the Journal of Food Science in 2017 for his paper, “Novel Umami Ingredients: Umami Peptides and Their Taste.” The paper, published in December 2016, is a literature review of research on umami peptides.

Biological and agricultural engineering adjunct professor Zhongli Pan was interviewed as part of the Chinese American Food Society's quarterly newsletter in honor of being named an Institute of Food Technologies (IFT) Fellow in March.

UC Davis and the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) were featured on a question from the April 6 episode of Jeopardy’s College Championship. A $600 question under the “E-College-y” category read, “UC Davis converts 50 tons of organic waste into energy daily with a system called an A.D., this non-oxygen type of ‘digester.’”

Adjunct professor Zhongli Pan has been named a fellow of the Institute of Food Technologies (IFT). IFT fellows are recognized by their peers for “exemplary professionalism in the field of food science,” including scholarship, service, leadership or innovation that helps improve humanity through food science and technology.

Biological and agricultural engineering (BAE) distinguished professor and department chair Bryan Jenkins was named the recipient of the 2020 James R. and Karen A. Gilley Academic Leadership Award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE).

As the climate changes, farmers need new, high-tech tools to precisely measure resource use and predict yield so they can produce crops with less water, fertilizer and pesticide. New BAE assistant professor Mason Earles is bringing expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) to this new era of agriculture by developing algorithms to help farmers better and more efficiently grow, treat and harvest their crops.

Assistant Professor of Teaching Jennifer Mullin has found a home in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE). As the instructor for the College of Engineering’s Introduction to Engineering Design course (ENG 3), she pursues her passion for teaching, creativity and design while researching new methods of instruction to train the next generation of engineers.

Congratulations are in order for Dr. Paul Singh, professor emeritus, who received a Distinguished Service Award at the International Conference on Engineering and Food (ICEF) in Melbourne, Australia!

The conference was held September 23-27, and Dr. Singh was given the award in recognition for service to the International Association of Engineering and Food since its inception in 1976.

Distinguished Professor Emeritus R. Paul Singh has been invited to serve on the prestigious Food and Nutrition Board of the Health and Medicine Division, National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Prof. Singh will provide input related to issues pertaining to food technology and engineering.

ASABE is honoring Dr. Pan's long career providing scientific leadership in food and bioprocessing, and wrote in their award pamphlet:
