Isaya Kisekka receives Excellence in Education Award from the Irrigation Association

Associate professor Isaya Kisekka has received the 2020 Irrigation Association (IA) Excellence in Education Award. The annual award recognizes outstanding educators in irrigation, water management and water conservation. Kisekka was cited for being “instrumental in reviving the irrigation curriculum at UC Davis” by co-developing three new irrigation courses and helping create the Irrigation and Water Management minor.

Zhongli Pan named Institute of Food Technologies fellow

Adjunct professor Zhongli Pan has been named a fellow of the Institute of Food Technologies (IFT). IFT fellows are recognized by their peers for “exemplary professionalism in the field of food science,” including scholarship, service, leadership or innovation that helps improve humanity through food science and technology.

Professor Emeritus Paul Singh receives Distinguished Service Award

Congratulations are in order for Dr. Paul Singh, professor emeritus, who received a Distinguished Service Award at the International Conference on Engineering and Food (ICEF) in Melbourne, Australia!

The conference was held September 23-27, and Dr. Singh was given the award in recognition for service to the International Association of Engineering and Food since its inception in 1976.

Grad student Ryan Kawakita receives predoctoral fellowship from USDA

Congratulations to graduate student Ryan Kawakita of the Jeoh lab, who has won a fellowship from the USDA. Ryan recently learned of his award of the predoctoral fellowship from USDA NIFA, specifically for education and workforce development (EWD) with the intent to develop the next generation of professionals in the food and agricultural sciences.

Professor Zhongli Pan elected Fellow of ASABE

Congratulations are in order for BAE Adjunct Professor Zhongli Pan, who has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers!

ASABE is honoring Dr. Pan's long career providing scientific leadership in food and bioprocessing, and wrote in their award pamphlet:

Professor David Slaughter Receives Prestigious Cyrus Hall McCormick-Jerome Increase Case Gold Medal

Since 1932, the American Society of Biological and Agricultural Engineers (ASABE) has selected one recipient, if any, for the Cyrus Hall McCormick-Jerome Increase Case Gold Medal. The medal is awarded to those who show "exceptional and meritorious achievement in agriculture that has resulted in new concepts, products, processes or methods that advanced the development of agriculture.” This year's medal has been awarded to Biological and Agricultural Engineering Professor David Slaughter.

BAE team wins several awards in Big Bang! competition

Congratulations to Biomilitus, a team comprised of BAE grad students, a BAE researcher, and a Department of Entomology grad student student, for winning big in the UCDavis Big Bang! Business Competition.  The team won six awards at the competition, including the People’s Choice Award, $7,500; the Central Valley Innovation Award, $10,000; the Food, Ag + Health Innovation Award, $3,000; two prizes totaling $1,500 in a Little Bang!
